About the role

We’re on the lookout for a Senior SQL Developer to join our vibrant team. If you’re all about SQL databases and love designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining them, then this gig is made for you! As a Senior SQL Database Developer, your main quest will be crafting efficient and scalable database solutions that’ll make everyone go “Wow!” You’ll be working closely with our development team, collaborating with business stakeholders, and even teaming up with our database administrators to make sure everything runs like clockwork here at Pulse.

Key Responsibilities

1. Database Design and Development

▪ Design and develop SQL database structures, tables, views, stored procedures, functions, and triggers based on business requirements.

▪ Optimise database design for performance, scalability, and data integrity.

▪ Collaborate with software developers and system architects to ensure seamless integration of databases with applications.

▪ Implement indexing strategies, query optimisation techniques, and other performance tuning measures to enhance database performance.

2.  Data Modelling and Analysis:

▪ Analyse business requirements and translate them into data models, entity-relationship diagrams, and database schemas.

▪ Evaluate existing data models and propose improvements for efficiency, data integrity, and reporting capabilities.

▪ Perform data analysis and profiling to identify data quality issues, inconsistencies, and redundancies.

▪ Implement data normalisation and denormalisation techniques as appropriate.

3. Database Administration and Maintenance:

▪ Monitor and ensure the availability, reliability, and security of database systems.

▪ Perform regular backups, data restores, and disaster recovery procedures.

▪ Manage database access, user roles, and permissions to enforce data security and compliance.

▪ Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimise query execution plans.

▪ Resolve database-related issues, troubleshoot errors, and provide technical support to users and developers.

4. ETL and Data Integration:

▪ Develop and maintain Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes for data integration and data migration.

▪ Create and schedule data import/export jobs to ensure smooth data flows between databases and external systems.

▪ Work with business stakeholders to define data mapping, transformation rules, and integration requirements.

▪ Monitor and troubleshoot data integration processes, resolving any issues or discrepancies.

5. Documentation and Collaboration:

▪ Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including database design, data models, data dictionaries, and data flow diagrams.

▪ Collaborate with development teams, business analysts, and project managers to understand database requirements and provide technical guidance.

▪ Participate in code reviews, identify opportunities for code optimisation and adherence to best practices.

▪ Provide mentoring and guidance to junior database developers, sharing technical knowledge and promoting continuous learning.

What you will need

▪ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

▪ Proven experience as a SQL Database Developer, with a focus on Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle Database.

▪ Strong knowledge of database design principles, relational database concepts, and SQL query optimisation.

▪ Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and triggers.

▪ Experience with database performance tuning and optimisation techniques.

▪ Familiarity with ETL tools, data integration, and data migration processes.

▪ Solid understanding of database security, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.

▪ Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

▪ Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

▪ Experience with cloud databases (e.g., Amazon RDS, Azure SQL Database) is a plus.

▪ Knowledge of NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) is beneficial.

▪ Certification(s) in database administration or development is desirable but not mandatory.
